Clearing ranges from a handful of trees taken off a building pad to a wooded parcel opened up end to end. In the hills around Hot Springs that can mean pines and hardwoods on a slope, a narrow gravel drive, and nowhere obvious to put the brush.

Rules depend on where the land is
- Hot Springs Village: the village covers more than 26,000 acres, much of it wooded, and is governed by its property owners' association. Ask the POA about its rules before any clearing.
- City of Hot Springs: the city lists Landscape Regulations (16-9-1) and a Public Tree Code (17-6-1); we didn't find their clearing requirements in a form we could quote. Ask the city before clearing a lot.
- Unincorporated Garland County, such as Lake Hamilton: ask the county.
The brush and logs
City CAPS pickup is sized for a yard, not a parcel: two free pickups a year for residential customers, up to a ton each, then $20 for the first ton and $45 a ton after. A cleared lot usually needs haul-off, chipping or grinding in the contract. The Forestry Division discourages moving firewood long distances, since pests travel with it. We didn't research burning rules; ask the local fire department before burning brush.
